Do You Even…Recover?

If you workout regularly, you want to see results from all your effort. One important element of getting great results is often overlooked - and that is RECOVERY.

When you’re working out, you are tearing down muscle tissue and putting stress on your body. In order for your body to adapt to that stress & come back stronger, it needs time & energy to do that.

So how do you practice good recovery?

Absolute #1 is SLEEP - 7-9 hours of QUALITY sleep is ideal for most adults. We put this above nutrition because poor sleep can negatively impact your eating habits and hormonal balance. This is one reason why good sleep is crucial when your goal is fat loss. The same goes for muscle gain, as mentioned above.

A very close second is NUTRITION - you need enough overall calories and plenty of nutrients so that your body can repair itself efficiently. This also includes drinking enough water.

Next is REST in general - take a rest day from the gym every other day or every 2 days. This is your time to relax or do something else active that you enjoy.

Speaking of, some light activity or body work on your rest days encourages faster recovery. You may not feel like moving around when you’re sore, but it helps. Walking, yoga, stretching, massage & foam rolling are all great choices.

You can also elevate your recovery game with infrared saunas, cold plunges and cryotherapy, but we prefer to focus on the basics.
